ln 1988 Extramech Southern was established to provide product support to national companies for maintaining front line machines for ARC (now Hanson) at their railheads at Fareham in Hampshire, and Didcot in Oxon. EMS also maintained self drive hire Case and Komatsu machines for Ridgeway Rentals of Oswestry.
The directors decided to commence a plant sales unit and were approached by Libra from San Marino to market their mini excavator range, and a later approach by Atlas to undertake excavator sales and provide product support for their lorry loaders operating south of the M4 corridor.
In 1997 Extramech was renamed as Extra Mech Services Ltd., this followed an approach by German excavator manufacturer Schaeff to sell their compact range of excavators. Knowing the reputation of Schaeff for exemplary build quality we broke ties with Libra and Atlas and became a main dealer for Schaeff until the company was acquired by Terex.
Over the years Extra Mech Services Ltd have developed a plant hire division which is now a major part of our business, and we have selected and tested new reliable machines for our hire fleet, all of which are maintained in house by our fully trained engineers.
ln 2014 we opened a depot on the A259 at Bognor Regis, with our main office at New Lane Havant being purchased in 2015. At our Havant base we have workshop facilities with a washdown plant to ensure that all machines are cleaned and inspected when off hired.
Currently we have over 300 machines in our hire fleet based at our depots in Havant and Bognor Regis.
We are a family company solely owned by a father and son team who have worked together for over 26 years, supported by a loyal workforce.
